A small, dusty, disorienting place, but the employees will help you find anything you need (and somehow they know where it all is).

This place is weird. I couldn't tell if I was in a hardware store or someone's old garage. I had to buy mothballs and the packaging looked like it was from 1982.
In addition to being an extremely helpful old school (floor to ceiling stuff) hardware store, this is by far the best paint store around. The staff are much more knowledgeable than the random kids hired by City Paint and their various branches, and the Hillside people are also much friendlier. Obviously, nobody should ever buy paint at Home Depot, but I am mentioning that here in case it helps someone. Whether you are a pro or a newbie, Hillside is where you should get your paint.
Excellent neighborhood Hardware store, knowledgeable staff, very helpful and patient, well stocked, and they can order nearly anything you might need. I've been a customer here for about 25 years.
